Macro leaf with water droplets captured with x100s

Just mucking around with macro mode with the x100s and captured this nice shot post rain.

Great Christmas retail shop fronts captured with x100s

One of the wonders of Christmas in Sydney is the retail display at David Jones in Sydney. This year they installed an amazing animated puppet show with different themes to celebrate the festive season. What did you find in your city/town?

Lego still has a place in a digital age - x100s captures the greatest toy

Lego was founded in 1932, but first produced plastic toys in 1947. Amazingly over 90 years later, its still great fun and very pleasing for kids in a digital age. The great lesson that I think Lego a wonderful teaching tool is that it make kids learn kinaesthetically e.g. learning by doing. Physical activity and problem solving is hopefully not a lost art form to keyboards or game controllers. Lego might just be the greatest toy ever. All taken with Fuji x100s jpegs processed in PSE 10 using Nik Software.

Sydney's botanical gardens

I went on my very first organised photo walk at lunch today with some great people through Sydney's botanical gardens, shot with the Ricoh GR and processed on Snapseed on iPad. Unfortunately I didn't have much time but had fun and got some light exercise at lunch under the warm Sydney sun.

Yum cha lunchtime in Sydney

Well in the last few years eating in Sydney has turned into theatre with windows and chefs playing the starring roles. Shot with Ricoh GR in B&W mode and processed in Snapseed on iPad. I love the B&W rendering from the Ricoh, it seems to be it default strength, besides its size and quality.

Sydney QVB perspective

It's hard to believe that Sydney almost lost the QVB to developers some time ago, or so the rumour goes. Just look at the architecture. Shot on Ricoh GR and processed in Snapseed on iPad. I balanced the camera on a sign to get a longer exposure and clearer shot. When you use small cameras the improvisation of these props is very useful.

Hyde park barracks with a little HDR in B&W

Hyde park barracks Sydney with a little HDR affect in post processing on Snapseed. Shot with Ricoh GR during full sunlit day. Nice to appreciate the finer buildings of the past and the detail and time they took to create. I think we lost something along the way.

Cafe life in Sydney

Some candid everyday shots of coffee time in Sydney at a very popular cafe, shot with Ricoh GR in B&W mode, processed in Snapseed on iPad. I had the camera perched flat on a bench running on continuous mode using snap focus at about 1.5m from memory.

Alan the busker plays the blues

I met Alan busking near the QVB building in Sydney a few weeks ago having a great time playing some good ole blues. He was a great character, used to be a teacher and does what he loves and gets paid for it. Taken on a Ricoh GR in B&W mode and processed in Snapseed on iPad. I don't mind the tight head crop to let his hands express his personality.

Halloween 2013

Halloween is a fun night for the kids to get out and about and eat too many sweets. It's also great for the neighbours to say hi and keep in touch. Communities are the best social media. All taken on Fuji x100s in auto mode pretty much all the time, I think I had the flash operational and was using the singular focus setting. I may have used macro mode for a few of the close ups.

Art in Hyde Park

Walking around Sydney you never know what you might run into. These amazing mirrored rectangular tubes were lined up everywhere providing some interesting perspectives on Sydney. Taken with Ricoh GR and processed in Snapseed. Love jpegs = less time processing more time taking pictures. :-)

Sydney skies ablaze

The recent bush fires around Sydney have been quite unbelievable. This picture was taken from Lane Cove on Fuji x100s and processed in Snapseed. Hopefully the rest of summer will be a little kinder to us all.

Sometimes all it takes is a smile

This wonderful gentleman is often found in Pitt St Sydney with the sole purpose of making people happy. A nice simple and powerful message in a life so hurried and digitally disconnected. Shot on a Leica AF C1 with SPX film. Enjoy.

Why I still love film

Recently I bought an old but great working canon eos 500n off eBay, attached a Sigma 85 1.4f lens and loaded some Ilford B&W film and Kodak Portra - both 400, and decided to see if film still offered anything in today's photography. Absolutely yes, I think anyway. Is it as clear as digital, no. Does it have organic qualities that captures a soul in the photo? Totally. Word. Enjoy.

X100s captures Sydney foggy sunrise

Luckily was crossing the bridge this morning early and saw this great sunrise with a fog hanging overhead. Captured iOS 100, handheld, f5.6, Velvia film simulation, processed in Snapseed via Nik software. Enjoy.

x100s and Sydney Vista

Sydney Harbour Bridge and North Sydney from Observatory Hill, today around 5.30pm, Fujifilm x100s on tripod, iso 100, 30 second exposure, f8. Processed on Snapseed on iPad. Enjoy.

Going back to film - Canon 500n and Rollei 100 - part III

These pictures were shot at Bondi Beach. The colours are great and the artists are certainly talented. The Rollei film worked out very well and they were processed at Foto Reisel in the city, then took the high res jpeg scans and processed in Nik Software and Perfectly Clear. I think they turned out very well. I think I'm liking film. Enjoy.

Going back to film - Canon 500n and Fuji 400 - part II

These pictures were shot around Sydney at Hyde Park Barracks and the QVB building. The colours are great and the artists are certainly talented. The Fuji 400 colour 35mm film worked out very well and they were processed at Foto Reisel in the city, then took the high res jpeg scans and processed in Nik Software and Perfectly Clear. I think they turned out very well. I think I'm liking film. Enjoy.
